The What Works Centre for Crime Reduction was established in 2013 and is part of the College of Policing.

New reviews have recently been published on

• electronic monitoring;
• speed camera to reduce speeding traffic and road traffic injuries; and
• What Works in retail tagging.

The focus of the What Works Centre for Crime Reduction is on:

• reviewing research on practices and interventions to reduce crime;
• labelling the best available evidence on interventions in terms of impact on crime reduction, how they work, where they work, how to do it and economic cost. Go to Crime Reduction Toolkit.
• providing Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) and other crime reduction stakeholders with the knowledge, tools and guidance to help them target their resources more effectively.

The Centre is led by a core team from the College of Policing and has been supported by a Commissioned partnership programme which was jointly funded by the College and the Economic and Social Research Council.

The What Works Centre for Crime Reduction is part of a network of What Works Centres created to provide robust and comprehensive evidence that will guide decision-making on public spending. For more information, see the Gov.uk website.

Change The Course: National Report on Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment at Australian Universities (2017)

This week, the Human Rights Commission released a national, independent survey of over 30,000 students from 39 Australian universities.

The findings provided key insights into the nature, prevalence and reporting of sexual assault and sexual harassment at university.

The survey collected information regarding:

• prevalence of sexual assault and sexual harassment among Australian university students in 2015 and 2016
• characteristics of people who experienced sexual assault and sexual harassment
• characteristics of perpetrators of sexual assault and sexual harassment
• settings where students experienced sexual assault and sexual harassment at university
• reporting of sexual assault and sexual harassment, and
• students’ recommendations for change.

All 50 States Support Keeping 16-Year-Olds out of the Adult Criminal Justice System

Two states — New York and North Carolina — recently passed legislation to end the practice of automatically prosecuting all 16- and 17-year-olds as adults.

This means that every state in the nation now recognizes that 16-year-olds are more likely to successfully transition to adulthood if justice systems are designed for youth rehabilitation.

WIESBADEN – Die Bevölkerung mit Migrationshintergrund erreichte 2016 zum fünften Mal in Folge einen neuen Höchststand.

Wie das Statistische Bundesamt (Destatis) auf Basis des Mikrozensus mitteilt, hatten im Jahr 2016 rund 18,6 Millionen Menschen in Deutschland einen Migrationshintergrund. Dies entsprach einem Zuwachs gegenüber dem Vorjahr von 8,5 %.

Das ist der stärkste Zuwachs seit Beginn der Messung im Jahr 2005. Der hohe Anstieg ist vor allem auf die hohe Zuwanderung von Ausländerinnen und Ausländern einschließlich der Schutzsuchenden in den Jahren 2015 und 2016 zurückzuführen.
